Top Ten Things I Love (from the perspective of a recent college grad)

This is such a subjective topic, but since this is my blog I will share my opinion 🙂

  1. Sleeping in. Enough said. Going to bed with the knowledge that your alarm clock won’t go off the next morning is about the best feeling in the world.
  2. Shopping. Ever since I got my first paycheck, shopping has been a wonderful experience. I am no longer limited to Forever 21 but I can shop at J.Crew and all of those other places that are so cute but so overpriced. Shopping is my guilty pleasure and since I still live at home and don’t pay rent, I shop much more than I really should.
  3. Conference calls. Not everyone will agree with me on this one but I happen to love conference calls. Especially afternoon conference calls. To me conference calls are an hour and a half out of my day where I don’t need to think, just listen. It is a wonderful way to kill time during those long, boring, and tedious work days. I would be on conference calls all day if I could.
  4. Checking things off of your To-Do List. I don’t know about all of you, but if I don’t write things down I tend to forget them. And I love to make To-Do lists. Not only do they make me look busy but they help me keep organized. And there is no better feeling than leaving the office with all of your To-Do items checked off. Most of the time I even add items to my list just so I can have the satisfaction of putting a check mark next to it. Go ahead, laugh at me if you want. But in 10 years when I am CEO I will attribute my success to my To-Do list obsession.
  5. PTO. best. invention. ever. Getting paid to do nothing is one of the best feelings. It almost makes all those long hours in the office worth it.
  6. Pay-Day. The two best days of the month are the 15th and the 31st. I love looking at my bank account after pay-day. It actually makes me feel rich, that is, until I get my next credit card statement in the mail….
  7. Finals week. What used to be the worst few weeks of the school year have turned into something I can rub in the faces of all those who are still in college. As jealous as I am of college students for 50 weeks out of the year, those 2 weeks of finals are a time when I can laugh at them. Thank goodness I never have to experience finals week again.
  8. College reunions. I miss my college friends more than words can describe. It’s hard to go from seeing them everyday to only texting and calling them. Our reunions are something I look forward to all year long. My friends and I love to do Vegas but I can foresee cruises and tropical vacations in the future (when we are actually making money).
  9. Hometown hangouts. If you’re like me, you moved back to your hometown after graduating college. I happen to love my hometown. It’s right next to a big city and it has great shopping and restaurants. Plus all of my old friends moved home after college so there is always someone to hang out with. I happen to love going to the bars I was never allowed in during High School and I enjoy my weekly Taco Tuesdays. I also love running into random people like my dentist and my kindergarten teacher. It makes me feel like I belong somewhere.
  10. The future. Because who knows where I will be in a couple of years. Five years ago today I had no idea I would be a founder of an M&A investment firm. I can’t wait for all of the great things that lie ahead. I am so excited to move up in my career, fall in love, buy a house, get a dog or have a niece/nephew. I once heard a quote “What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet.” And isn’t it?
